A coalition in Manitowoc County is continuing to work on a five-year project to help people live longer and better.
Healthiest Manitowoc County has been working since 2022 to create their Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP) in partnership with community members and organizations based on local data and health priorities selected by the community.
The project started in 2022 with gathering data.
For the last two years, Healthiest Manitowoc County has been setting goals and creating action-based groups.
Health Educator Lexi Otis explained on WOMT’s Be My Guest program that the coalition has been asking residents about their health among other topics.
“Do you feel seen and heard when you go to the doctor, do you have transportation to get their if you need to?” she elaborated. “Do you feel safe in your neighborhood? So, it goes beyond just your, do you eat your fruits and vegetables? Do you manage your chronic diseases.”
Healthiest Manitowoc County, along with other groups, have now been working on trying to fix issues like food insecurities and other top priorities in the county according to resident’s data.
Otis says last year was the first real year that work was done to help fix issues were needed.
The plan will continue to be worked on through 2027.
