A volunteer firefighter from Campbellsport has had his bond set after being arrested this past weekend.
34-year-old Nicholas Benzing was inside a Fond du Lac County courtroom yesterday (February 26th) for his initial appearance where Judge Anthony Nehls set his bond at $25,000.
Benzing has been charged with one felony count of Second-Degree Sexual Assault of a Child after being arrested by the Campbellsport Police Department on February 22nd.
Initial investigations by police revealed that sexual contact between the 34-year-old and a juvenile female had occurred.
After Benzing’s arrest, Charlie Kudy, Campbellsport Village Administrator, said that he was immediately placed on suspended leave pending the investigation which remains ongoing.
Benzing will return to court in Fond du Lac County on April 3rd for a preliminary hearing.
