A lawsuit is being filed against the Green Bay Correctional Institution in the death of Micah Laureano.
FOX11 reports that the mother of Laureano filed the civil lawsuit yesterday (February 25th) blaming prison officials for Micah’s death.
24-year-old Jackson Vogel has been charged with 1st-degree intentional homicide in the death, with a criminal complaint saying he did it because of Laureano’s race and sexual preference.
The lawsuit names the corrections secretary, warden, and five John Does as defendants whose “willful and deliberate indifference to Laureano’s safety resulted in him being murdered by his cellmate (Vogel).”
The suit also claims the state didn’t follow procedures, which put Laureano at risk.
He had 18 months left of a three-year prison sentence for crimes in Waukesha and Columbia Counties that include robbery use of force, first-degree recklessly endangering safet,y and battery.
Vogel was in prison after he was sentenced to 20 years in prison for attempted homicide in Two Rivers.
He has a status conference set for March 17th.
