Manitowoc County’s congressman in Washington says there has already been success at the southern border under the Trump Administration.
Republican Glenn Grothman says in just one month, Trump’s leadership and policies have “dramatically improved the situation at the border, protecting American and migrants alike, while taking power away from the drug cartels who were emboldened by the previous administration.”
The Glenbeulah native cited Trump’s numerous executive orders he’s signed over his first 30 days in office, including the reestablishment of the “Remain in Mexico” policy, ending “catch-and-release,” and seeing the lowest amount of illegal border crossing in decades.
According to a CBS article, Customs and Border Patrol Chief Mike Banks also credits Trump with the slowing of illegal immigrants coming into the country.
However, the number has been going down since June 2024 when then President Biden enacted an executive order that restricted asylum.
Grothman says Biden overturned Trump-era policies that worked and resulted in the US-Mexico border becoming wide open and ignored for years.
