A groundbreaking is being scheduled for a new community for people with dementia.
The future Livasu community will be a first-of-its-kind village in the US and designed to provide an environment in which those living with dementia can “live as usual” and with thoughtful, positive risk acceptance.
Over the past year, the Livasu leadership team has been undertaking a large capital campaign that has recently crossed a threshold for a much-anticipated Spring groundbreaking.
However, more support is needed for the $13.5 million project.
The village will be built in the Town of Wilson and will include 124 individually owned homes, a village center with a restaurant open to the public, theater, grocery store, and more.
Dementia Innovations is the nonprofit group that has been planning to design and build the village.
The model from the village comes from a project that’s been successful in the Netherlands.
