A volunteer firefighter in Campbellsport has been charged with child sexual assault.
The Village of Campbellsport has released a statement saying that the individual, an unnamed 34-year-old man, was arrested by the Campbellsport Police Department on Saturday morning (February 22nd).
He was then transported to the Fond du Lac County Jail where he is facing a felony charge of Second-Degree Sexual Assault of a Child.
The police department’s initial investigation revealed that sexual contact had taken place between the 34-year-old and a juvenile female.
Following the arrest, Charlie Kudy, Campbellsport Village Administrator, said, “These allegations are a shock. This individual betrayed the trust of the Campbellsport Volunteer Fire Department and most importantly, our community.”
He continued to say that the individual in question was immediately placed on suspended leave pending the investigation.
The investigation into the incident remains in its preliminary stages and additional charges may be handed out to the suspect when the investigation is completed.
No further details are being released at this time in an effort to maintain the investigation’s integrity.
