An external investigation is underway after a suspect was fatally shot by a Sheriff’s Deputy in the Town of Fond du Lac.
The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office contacted an individual yesterday (February 24th) by phone who was known to have a felony warrant out for their arrest after receiving information that the same individual was also allegedly carrying a firearm at the time.
The subject was then located in the 6300 block of Cherrywood Drive and refused to follow the commands of deputies on the scene.
A Sheriff’s Deputy then fired a non-lethal weapon at the unnamed individual.
After being shot with non-lethal rounds, it is alleged that the subject produced what was believed to be a firearm.
In response, a second deputy shot the individual at approximately 6:20 p.m., leaving them in critical condition.
EMS was then called to the scene and life-saving measures were attempted.
The individual was then transported to a local hospital where they were pronounced dead.
The deputy who fatally shot the individual has been placed on leave per agency policy and an investigation into the matter is being conducted by the Wisconsin Department of Justice’s Division of Criminal Investigation.
All involved law enforcement officers were wearing body cams at the time of the fatal shooting which will be reviewed as part of the investigation.
At this time, additional details are being withheld to protect the integrity of the investigation.
