Governor Tony Evers’ recently proposed budget includes millions of dollars in funding for a project on Sheboygan’s lakeshore.
Gov. Evers’ $119 billion budget proposal for the next two years has included up to $3 million in funds to aid in Sheboygan’s Waterfront and Marina Master Plan.
Specifically, Evers has said that the funding would help pay for the construction of an educational facility at the Harbor Centre Marina.
This $3 million is part of $33 million allocated to projects within the Harbor Assistance Program, such as dredging, seawall reconstruction, and other projects.
Sheboygan’s Common Council, in a 5-2 vote, approved the Waterfront and Marina Master Plan in October of last year.
The plan, currently estimated to cost $77 million to complete, was met with some opposing opinions despite being approved.
In favor of the master plan, City Administrator Casey Bradley said, “We do ultimately need a master plan of conceptually how we want the riverfront to or the lakefront to look. Because without that, we won’t be able to go after state funding or federal grants or even private grants.”
Others on the Common Council were hesitant to approve of the spending of such a large amount of money without full funding yet to be acquired.
