An Appleton man has been convicted of a bank robbery.
Court documents show that 63-year-old Martin Schiedermayer was in court on Friday (February 21st) where he was convicted due to a no contest plea as he faced one charge of Robbery of a Financial Institution, a felony offense.
This no-contest plea comes after the 63-year-old originally pled not guilty to the offense late last month.
Schiedermayer was arrested in January by Appleton Police following reports of a bank robbery in the 100 block of South State Street, just one block from the Appleton Police Department.
Witnesses and employees at the bank told officers a man had entered the establishment, demanded money, and fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Thanks to detailed descriptions of the bank robber and his vehicle, police located the 63-year-old minutes later and took him into custody.
FOX11 reports that the change in his plea was made because he believes that, due to his financial situation, jail is his most suitable option.
This comes as Schiedermayer’s second robbery charge after he was previously arrested in 2011 for robbing the same bank in Appleton.
Schiedermayer will return to court on April 17th for his sentencing hearing.
