The Woodland Dunes Nature Preserve is hosting an island-themed fundraiser for one last time.
The Tropical Blast takes place this evening (February 22nd) from 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm at the Sepia Chapel in Two Rivers and will have about 166 people in attendance.
Communications and Development Coordinator Nancy Nabak explains to SeehaferNews.com that while it’s a successful event, it’s time to bring something new and exciting.
“So, we’ll be moving forward in an exciting direction after this year,” she stated. “But this year is still going to be a lot of fun and make a lot of good dollars. Go to work on our preserve, saving habitat and offering more education programs to our kids in the community.”
Like years past, Nabak asks the public to wear bright, island-themed colors to become part of the atmosphere of the Tropical Blast.
“It’s kind of fun to go to Sepia and have them playing steel drum music during the cocktail hour and everybody dressed up in bright colors and Hawaiian shirts,” she explained. “This feeling, the warmth of the festivity all together.”
There will be plenty of items up for auction for the final event including a kayak and a Door County vacation among others.
While it is the last Tropical Blast fundraiser, Nabak has some good memories playing games with attendees.
Nabak exclaimed, “So we’ve had some heads and tails game where people end up winning the game. We really don’t promote what we’re giving as a prize.”
This year’s goal like previous years is $60,000 which all goes back to Woodland Dunes.
What the new event looks like isn’t yet known, but the nature preserve will have another fundraiser in September.
