Manitowoc Public Utilities is supporting a bill working its way through the Wisconsin Legislature.
The revised “Right of First Refusal” (ROFR) bill was introduced last week and has been considered by lawmakers in the last session.
However, it didn’t make it to the State Senate. MPU continues saying they, along with other municipal utilities, cooperatives, and IOUs support the bill because it addresses things like the rights of an incumbent transmission facility owner to construct, own, and maintain certain transmission lines, especially those shared regionally.
The main benefit of the ROFR ensures Wisconsin’s power grid decisions remain within the state with oversight from the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin, ensuring the end consumer’s best interest are a top priority.
MPU says the bill could also save up to $1 billion over the life of the transmission infrastructure versus out-of-state transmission communities.
Communications Manager Jennie Nelson finishes by saying MPU focuses on the customers, and that’s why they support the bill.
