Governor Tony Evers has released his budget proposal for 2025-2027 to mixed reactions.
Gov. Evers’ plan includes an increase in funding for schools, an expansion of health care options, some road projects, and a tax increase for the wealthiest of Wisconsinites.
While his Democratic Party counterparts are praising the plan, Republicans aren’t as positive. In a statement to SeehaferNews.com, Oostburg Senator Devin LeMahieu said the “bloated budget will bankrupt Wisconsin.”
The Senate Majority Leader pointed to Gov. Evers’ use of the veto last session to “hoard taxpayer money by denying middle-class tax relief. Now, he wants to spend that money to put more able-bodied, childless adults on welfare and grow the size of government.”
Sen. LeMahieu promised that the legislature would “stop the governor’s reckless spending and craft a responsible budget that funds core priorities without raising taxes or creating a massive deficit.”
He also noted, “Senate Republicans are committed to using the state’s $4.5 billion surplus to provide substantive tax relief to Wisconsin families.”
