A police officer is recovering in the hospital, and a suspect has died following a violent confrontation in Milwaukee yesterday.
Police Chief Jeffrey Norman reported that officers responded to a call around noon about a man seen carrying a rifle near 27th Street, between Wells Street and Wisconsin Avenue.
When the first two officers arrived, they ordered the suspect to drop his weapon. However, he opened fire on them instead.
One officer, 34, was struck by gunfire, while the other returned fire, fatally wounding the suspect.
The injured officer was rushed to the hospital for surgery.
The suspect’s identity has not been disclosed, and the Oak Creek Police Department is now handling the investigation.
