Joann Fabrics is closing nearly 70% of its Wisconsin stores as part of a larger effort to downsize its operations nationwide.
The company, which filed for bankruptcy in January, will shut down 500 stores across the country, including 16 in Wisconsin, due to financial struggles and inventory challenges.
Locations in the Milwaukee area, including Cudahy, Brookfield, Menomonee Falls, and Pewaukee, are among those affected.
Despite owing over $600 million in debt, the company stated that the closures are necessary to “right-size” its footprint.
Final closure dates for the affected stores have yet to be announced.
