Manitowoc County’s Congressman in Washington is praising President Donald Trump for a halt on eliminating a certificate for those who have disabilities while they also work.
Republican Glenn Grothman explained on the U.S. House Floor that the Biden administration was looking at getting rid of the 14c Certificate, which allows those with disabilities to be able to work.
The Glenbeulah native says there has been a false premise that the certificates are exploitative when they provide those with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to work, build friendships, and contribute to the community.
He also discussed touring places that offer those with disabilities a place to work, saying they were under threat.
“Now had Donald Trump not won the election, they would have continued to work through administrative role process and it’s entirely possible that these sort of facilities would have been shut down by a Biden or Harris Administration,” he said on the House Floor. “They were working toward that.”
Grothman thanked Trump for not continuing with the administrative rule and will keep the 14c certificates around. According to the US Department of Labor,
The Biden-Harris Administration was reviewing the program to try and create a “more inclusive workforce with equal employment opportunities.”
