The Manitowoc Police Department is honoring another department member following his retirement.
Officers gathered to celebrate Captain of Detectives Pete McGinty last Friday (February 7th) after dedicating 28 years of service to law enforcement.
McGinty graduated from Clintonville High School in 1990 and continued his education at UW Oshkosh, earning a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice in 1995.
He started his training at the Police Academy at Fox Valley Technical College and graduated in 1996.
McGinty started working for the Two Rivers Police Department from September 1996 to June 2016, including working with the Metro Drug Unit as an investigator.
He also became a detective sergeant in 2001.
Pete was then hired in 2016 as a third shift officer for MPD.
He then worked to become a detective in 2018 and then captain of detectives in 2021.
Manitowoc Police say one of McGinty’s greatest accomplishments was creating and fostering a teamwork atmosphere within the agency and impacting the local community and crime victims.
Towards the end of his career, he focused on positively impacting Manitowoc Police Department employees to prepare them for the future.
Police Lieutenant Cooper Schmidt has been promoted to the next Captain of Detectives.
He’s been with the department since 2016.
