A man previously convicted of killing his parents in Wolf River was back in court after requesting to withdraw his no contest pleas.
27-year-old Erik Metzig was present inside Winnebago County courtroom yesterday (February 10th) for a status hearing regarding his desire to withdraw his pleas due to alleged sexual assault throughout his life at the hands of his parents.
After entering the no contest pleas for which he was convicted, Metzig said that this alleged sexual assault was the reason behind the killing of his parents, Jan and Dave Metzig, in March of 2023.
At yesterday’s hearing the state objected to his motion to withdraw the pleas, however, have requested two weeks to discuss the matter before officially filing a response.
As we previously reported, the 27-year-old and his legal counsel believe this discovery could sway a jury’s decision if he were to stand trial.
Metzig will be back in court on March 19th for a motion hearing.
