Local and state conservation groups have been awarded grant funding by the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP).
Governor Tony Evers announced on Wednesday (February 5th) that $1 million has been awarded to 49 farmer-led groups via the Producer-Led Watershed Protection Grant (PLWPG) Program.
These 49 recipients include groups from Manitowoc, Sheboygan, Calumet, and Fond du Lac Counties.
The Seven Rivers Soil Co-op of Manitowoc County has received $32,000, while the Sheboygan River Progressive Farmers received $22,000.
Fond du Lac County’s Watersheds Alliance also received $22,000, and the Calumet County Ag Stewardship Alliance was on the receiving end of $16,500 of grant funding.
This funding given out by the DATCP aims to encourage innovation and farmer participation in an effort to improve the state’s soil health and water quality.
