An elementary school in Sheboygan has received national recognition for their recent work.
James Madison Elementary School has been named one of 69 schools in the country to be named a 2024 National ESEA Distinguished School.
Specifically, James Madison has received the distinction for its success in serving special populations of students.
The school’s diverse student body is made up of 30 percent of students having a disability, over 70 percent come from disadvantaged backgrounds, and just over 20 percent are English learners.
School Principal Charity Cartland says, “Through high expectations, inclusive practices, and dedicated staff, James Madison students continue to grow academically year over year.”
These inclusive practices have led James Madison to excel in the area of student growth, thanks to Professional Learning Communities, which focus on analyzing student data to provide teachers with targeted and personalized instruction.
Principal Cartland will attend the 2025 National ESEA Conference later this month to share the practices of James Madison Elementary School with other nationally recognized schools.
