A local mental health organization is using art to raise money and bring the community together.
Each month, Painting Pathways hosts an event they call “Canvas Creations”, where participants recreate a painting created by the organization’s Community Engagement leader, Desiree Buck.
She tells SeehaferNews.com that the idea came to her after her first visit to the clubhouse.
“Initially, when I was interviewing, it said painting pathways, and you walk in, you see a ton of art all over the place. But then I’m like, Well, where’s the painting?” Buck explained. “She had said that it was kind of a blank canvas, quote unquote, for me to come in here and kind of be the painting of the pathways.”
Each piece has a theme matching that month, including a piece called “Love Birds” for February.
Buck encourages everyone to attend, even if you aren’t very artistic.
“I will do a step-by-step instruction,” she noted. “That way, if people are a little nervous or they think they don’t have like a creative gene that generally kind of calms people’s nerves.”
Some of the upcoming pieces are a bit more on the technical side, so generally, Canvas Creations is for teens and adults, but there are also some mommy and me-themed nights.
“It’s a beach scene and we actually get a little messy, take our shoes off and we use our actual feet prints,” Bick revealed. “I used my hand, actually, because I didn’t have a baby to make too little the little foot. But obviously it can be any age child.”
Canvas Creations is held on the third Friday of each month at the Clubhouse located at 1226 Washington Street.
There is a cost of $25 per person to attend the one to two-hour long sessions, which begin at 5:00 p.m.
The cost does include a canvas, painting supplies, and some appetizers.
