Lakeland University was the recent recipient of hundreds of thousands of dollars in grant funding.
The Kohler Trust for the Arts and Education has given the university $365,000 to fund numerous student-centered programs and initiatives.
Three programs in particular to benefit directly from this funding will be Lakeland’s Kohler Teaching Scholars Program, the Lakeland Promise Program, and the Sheboygan County Scholars Program.
The Lakeland Promise Program provides qualified Wisconsin students to attend the university’s residential program free of charge, covering tuition and other fees.
The Kohler Teaching Scholars program will use the money to provide scholarship support and, coupled with Lakeland’s Co-Op Program, will create a competitive pathway for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color to become teachers for the Sheboygan Area School District.
The Sheboygan County Scholars Program aims to retain the area’s most promising young people while offering them full-tuition scholarships as well.
After receiving the funding, Lakeland University President Beth Borgen said, “Their investment in our students is helping us create the next generation of leaders and contributing citizens in our region.”
