A former teacher at Two Rivers High School has been convicted on a child abuse charge.
Rebecca Lynne Chewning, formerly known as Rebecca Kilps, pleaded guilty to a charge of Child Abuse – Recklessly Causing Harm, and was ordered to spend 90 days in the Manitowoc County Jail under the Huber Law by Judge Jerilyn Dietz, to be followed by two years of probation.
Chewning was arrested in May of last year after her ex-husband found a handprint on their shared child.
The 4-year-old child told their father that Chewning hit them, to which Chewning said she had “lost her patience.”
As a part of her sentencing, Chewning was ordered to undergo treatment and counseling as deemed appropriate by the Department’s assessment process, and a parenting education course.
Chewning was previously convicted on charges of Sexual Assault of a Student by School Staff, and two counts of Sexual Intercourse with a Child 16 or Older.
