Sheboygan County Transportation’s Highway Department was the recent recipient of an award.
In January, the Highway Department was named the 2024 recipient of the James B. Sorenson Award for Excellence in Pavement Preservation from FP2 (FP Squared).
They received the award for their proactive approach to emerging trends in the preservation of pavements on roadways in the county.
Sheboygan County’s preservation strategies are based on education and research as well as participation in the National Road Research Alliance.
They also focus heavily on “pre-preservation” with groundbreaking practices like void-reducing asphalt membranes and penetrating asphalt emulsions to extend maintenance timelines.
When accepting the award, the Sheboygan County Transportation Director Bryan Olson said, “I’d like to take a moment and thank our county board for supporting our department’s submission statement of creating safe and reliable transportation today and tomorrow.”
Sheboygan County’s preservation efforts have also been strengthened by enacting a transportation tax nearly a decade ago.
