The Manitowoc Public School District has addressed the recent mass deportations that have been happening around the country.
Since President Donald Trump took office, Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents have been rounding up illegal immigrants for deportation, leaving many worried about their future.
Interim MPSD Superintendent Lee Thennes sent a letter to families in the district, ensuring them that “ICE is not permitted to enter school grounds without a judicial warrant.”
He noted that the District is doing everything it can to foster safe and welcoming schools, protect student privacy, support emotional well being for students and staff, and open communication with everyone.
Thennes said “We remain committed to ensuring our schools are safe, inclusive, and nurturing environments for all students, regardless of their immigration status…As a community, we will continue to prioritize the safety, dignity, and well-being of all students, making sure our schools remain places where every child can feel valued, supported, and thrive.”
