A Fond du Lac sex offender has been arrested after going on the run.
The Fond du Lac Police Department was informed yesterday afternoon (January 27th) that Chad A. Maertz, a registered sex offender, cut off his GPS monitoring device, disrupting authorities’ ability to track him.
Maertz left his West Division Street residence and after, his whereabouts were unknown.
In response, Fond du Lac Police sent out images of Maertz himself and the vehicle he drives to aid the public in locating the sex offender.
A few hours later, police learned that Maertz purchased a rental car which was soon entered into the FLOCK license plate recognition system in the City of Germantown.
With assistance from the Germantown Police Department, Washington County Sheriff’s Office, and Wisconsin State Patrol, Maertz was located and later arrested without incident at the Germantown Walmart.
Maertz was convicted in December 2002 for the abduction of a child in Fond du Lac County.
