With two fatal UTV crashes and one fatal snowmobile accident this year, the Wisconsin DNR is again urging everyone to enjoy the winter weather safely.
This is especially true if you’re going over an open body of water. The DNR reminds residents that no ice is safe ice and that they don’t monitor conditions.
If you go out on a frozen lake, wear proper clothing, and include a personal flotation device if a vehicle goes through the ice.
It’s also important to check a body of water for inlets, outlets or narrows when the ice could be thin.
The DNR says looking at Travel Wisconsin’s Snow Report before going out is a good idea before going out.
