
The Wisconsin Department of Justice has released more details about the man who was shot and killed by law enforcement in Chippewa Falls.
On December 21st, 2024, 49-year-old Matthew Luke fired shots at law enforcement, prompting members of the Eau Claire Regional SWAT Team to return fire.
Luke was struck and pronounced dead at the scene. The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office had initially responded to a domestic abuse call involving Luke, but he fled the scene, leading police on a car chase.
After crashing, he shot at a Chippewa County Sheriff’s squad car.
The Department of Criminal Investigations is still reviewing the evidence and will submit its findings to the Chippewa County District Attorney once the investigation is complete.
