
Some of the best three-point shooters in high school basketball reside on the Lakeshore.
Manitowoc Lutheran senior Derek Laabs is currently ranked fifth in boys Division Four, shooting 42 percent from downtown.
Senior Eli Gallagher of Two Rivers is seventh in Division Three, shooting the ball sat at 41 percent clip from the three-ball.
In Division Five, Sheboygan Lutheran’s Andrew Kreuger is shooting 44.4 percent from distance, good enough for second and Brayden Smith of Elkhart Lake Glenbeulah is fifth best in boys D-5, shooting 42.2 percent from downtown.
For the girls, junior Zoey Siders of Valders is shooting the three-ball at a 41.4 percent clip from distance, good for fifth in Division Four. Mercedes Grimm of Reedsville is eighth in Division Five, shooting the long ball at nearly a 30.5 percent clip.
Samantha Gilchrist and Addy Verhagen of Sheboygan Lutheran are fourth and seventh in D-5, shooting about 34.5 and 31.5 percent from distance respectively.
The WIAA will be sponsoring a 3-point challenge as part of the boy’s and girls’ state basketball tournaments in March.
Contestants selected to participate will be chosen based on three-point shooting numbers in the Wissports.net stats database, which must be sent in by coaches.
The top two players at the end of the regular season in each division based on shooting percentage (minimum 100 attempts) will be selected to participate.
