Congressman Glenn Grothman is voicing his excitement over the recent inauguration of President Donald Trump.
The representative from Glenbeulah took some time out of his day while at the National Prayer Breakfast to give SeehaferNews.com a breakdown of what he liked about the president’s inauguration speech, and what he is looking forward to as he starts his 10th year in Washington.
Grothman specifically pointed to the plan President Trump put forth regarding increasing energy production in the U.S.
“Not only will that make America wealthier overall, but should lower the cost not just of gasoline, but the costs of other heating products should lower the cost of fertilizer, which will help the cost of food,” the Congressman from Glenbeulah noted.
While Grothman is very supportive of the President, he did not like President Trump’s idea of changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.
“It’s been the Gulf of Mexico, I think, for well over 200 years. So I don’t think that’s necessary,” Grothman said. “It would be confusing.”
As far as the plan to address TikTok, which was banned for around 12 hours over the weekend, Grothman said there are some legitimate concerns around the app.
“I’m glad President Trump is entering into some sort of negotiations to prevent abuses on the part of the Chinese,” he told SeehaferNews.com.
The local representative in Congress also has some items on his own agenda.
“Our welfare system discourages work and discourages marriage,” he said bluntly. “It’s time we stopped discouraging the mother and father in the home.”
Grothman also noted that he will continue to work on securing the southern border because, “We just can’t be taking this many people who maybe don’t want to live an American lifestyle”
Grothman also said that, with the Republicans only holding a three-seat majority in the House, “it would be nice” if the parties could cooperate to make things better in the U.S.
He did say that some of his “minor bills” are getting some Democrat support, but “when it comes to welfare reform or anything at the border, they’re kind of hostile to us.”
