Strong team defense and some hot shooting played the difference for the Roncalli girls basketball team last night.
The Jets were on the road to battle the Sheboygan Christian Eagles and came out victorious, winning 52 to 43.
From the tip, the Jets’ outside shot was falling as their first two buckets of the game came from behind the arc, and they were not done from there.
Six first half triples from Roncalli powered them to a 28-22 lead at the break.
In the second half, the defensive prowess was on full display, holding the Eagles to just 15 points in the second period.
Sheboygan Christian star Samantha Veldkamp, who averages 17 points per game, was held to just 11 thanks to some great interior defense played as a team, highlighted by Bella Jacky and Madison Keller.
Star guard Lauren Stengel led the way for the Jets, putting in 23, including four 3’s.
Madison Lamers added 8 as the Jets improved to 6-10.
Up next for the jets is a battle with the Kiel Raiders on Thursday.
