The Wisconsin Legislature is working on a new “lemon law.”
Manitowoc representative Paul Tittl explained on WOMT’s Be My Guest program that this lemon won’t focus on cars but on farm equipment like tractors.
The bill allows buyers of defective farm equipment to get their money back if there is a defect in the equipment.
Tittl says farmers need their equipment, and the law is needed.
“If you have a problem four times, and they don’t fix it, you can either get your money back or get a brand-new piece of equipment,” he said. “And I believe that’s fair.”
Dealers that work on tractors would be tasked with fixing the equipment.
Tittl says he’s surprised that some places are against the law because the implements get paid by the manufacturer.
The Wisconsin Assembly passed a version of the bill in 2023, but it didn’t make it to the Senate.
