This past year’s stats for the Manitowoc Police Department have stayed about the same in some categories.
Police Chief Nick Reimer explained on WOMT’s Be My Guest program that the number of calls for crashes was similar, with 1,098 crashes in 2024 compared to 1,066 in 2023.
While the number is up and seems high, Reimer says crashes were around 1,400 nine years ago.
Tickets went up last year.
3,158 traffic tickets were issued in 2024, while the number was closer to 2,700 in 2023.
Tickets during the winter park ban and snow emergency also went down.
Manitowoc Police also handled fewer reports in 2024, with 31,000.
There were 33,000 calls for service in 2023.
Reimer says while those numbers seem high, calls for service can be as simple as a parked car or something serious like a domestic incident.
