Police in Fond du Lac were called to two separate incidents involving firearms in the span of 40 hours.
The Fond du Lac Police Department responded to the 1000 block of Mihill Avenue on Sunday (January 12th) and the 500 block of Grove Street on Tuesday (January 14th), both for instances involving the accidental discharge of a firearm.
On Mihill Avenue, a 20-year-old male visiting family shot himself in the hand while reassembling a handgun.
Without knowing, the 20-year-old inserted a loaded magazine into the gun before accidentally shooting himself in the hand.
On Grove Street, a 27-year-old man failed to remove the magazine of a handgun while preparing to clear the firearm for storage.
During the process, the man accidentally discharged a round through his bedroom wall; however, no one was injured.
Following the incidents, Fond du Lac Chief of Police Aaron Goldstein said, “While I am relieved that the injuries sustained in the incidents were not life-threatening, these serve as a reminder of the importance of firearm safety. Firearm safety is non-negotiable.”
