As the new legislative session begins, an area State Senator is attaching his name to a pair of agriculture bills.
Senator Andre Jacque, who represents the 1st Senate District, is teaming up with Manitowoc Assemblyman Paul Tittl to introduce a farm equipment lemon law.
A lemon law provides a remedy when certain products, such as cars and trucks, are found to be repeatedly defective while under warranty.
If a buyer’s farm equipment under warranty remains defective, the authorized dealer or manufacturer must repair it.
This bill would ensure the consumer receives a replacement or full refund if the implement is subject to repair at least four times.
Ten other states, including Minnesota and Illinois, already have similar laws on the books.
Sen. Jacque is also joining forces with Fox Valley Assemblyman William Penterman and Oconto Representative Elijah Behnke to co-sponsor a bill aimed at prohibiting a foreign adversary from acquiring agricultural or forestry land in Wisconsin.
The trio noted in the announcement that foreign ownership of U.S. farmland has nearly doubled over the last 10 years and has been the recent focus of bi-partisan concern and legislation promoted by both sides of the aisle in Congress and state legislatures.
