A judge denied a bail reduction for a man charged with kidnapping and sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl in Fond du Lac County.
WBAY reports that during a hearing yesterday (January 14th), Juan Carlos Rocha Mejia asked to have his $1 million cash bond lowered.
His attorneys argued that he’s not a flight risk, while Fond du Lac District Attorney Eric Toney argued he is since he’s in the US illegally.
The judge agreed. As we’ve reported, the victim’s mother Elia Antinio is also facing charges because she allegedly was taking money Mejia in exchange for time with her daughter.
The victim fled from Mejia in May last year and ran to a nearby home before 911 was called.
A trial date for Mejia was set for July 21st with the pre-trial conference set for June 10th.
He faces charges of first-degree child sex assault with a child under 16, and use of a threat or violence.
