A local non-profit is looking to raise money for a local veteran in need.
The Patriot Riders of America, WI Chapter 2, have announced that, on March 1st, they will be holding their 3rd Annual Chili Competition and Bake Sale at City Limits Bar and Banquet Hall.
This year, the funds raised will go toward helping Navy veteran Tom Traurig.
Tom served in the Navy from 1976 to 1980, after which he served as a police officer in Manitowoc, a reserve deputy for Manitowoc County, and a Courier for Froedtert Holy Family Memorial.
However, on April 17th of last year, Tom had an accident at home, which left him as a quadriplegic.
The Patriot Riders are hoping to raise enough money to purchase a wheelchair accessible van, which would help Tom get to and from his appointments with the VA, and to enjoy shopping trips with his wife.
The chili competition will begin at noon on March 1st, with a bake sale also running through 4:00 p.m.
Those looking to sign up for the competition are encouraged to contact Jenny Matte by calling 920-769-6022, or emailing PatriotRidersWI.C2@gmail.com.
