A man was arrested for his 4th OWI in seven years over the weekend.
A Manitowoc Police Officer reports running the license plate of a vehicle traveling on Maritime Drive Saturday afternoon (January 11th), which noted that the registration was expired.
The officer conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle, which had veered toward the center line as the lights on the squad car were turned on.
The 28-year-old male driver was recognized by the officer through previous contacts and was said to be displaying signs of impairment.
The officer noted smelling marijuana, but a search of the vehicle did not uncover any illegal material.
A background check of the driver revealed he had been arrested for OWI in 2017, 2020, and 2022.
The man refused to submit to an evidentiary blood draw, so a warrant was obtained to do so.
The draw revealed an illegal level of alcohol in his system, leading to an arrest for the man’s 4th OWI.
He was also cited for Operating While Revoked, Failure to Install an Ignition Interlock Device, Failure to Have a Passenger Seatbelted, and Failure to Wear a Seatbelt.
