
The welfare check that turned into a standoff in Appleton came to a sad end.
In an update, Appleton Police say the person involved died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Police were called to North Bay Street last Friday (January 3rd) for that welfare check before the person presented a firearm.
Due to the dangerousness of the person’s actions, the incident quickly became a standoff.
When a SWAT team got into the home, they found the person and tried to provide medical care on scene.
The person was taken to a local hospital, but they succumbed to their injuries.
The name of the person will not be provided out of respect for the family.
The Grand Chute Police Department will conduct the death investigation into the incident.
