With 2025 now in full swing, a local financial advisor is warning of some potential risks to be aware of this year.
Jason Weier of Weier Wealth Management explained on a recent episode of his Financial Health show on 107.9 FM WOMT that there are two things that have him concerned in 2025.
The first is what is known as longevity risk.
That is when people miscalculate how long their retirement will last.
“We typically suggest age 92 to 94,” he explained. “That is based on current tables and current longevity estimates. Based on gender, we usually go 92 for a male, and 94 for a female.”
The other thing Jason has his eye on is interest rate or reinvestment risk.
“Reinvestment risk means that as rates go down, you are reinvesting at lower and lower rates,” he explained. “You are really not capitalizing on what you potentially could have for returns.”
While that is a risk worth noting, Weier said that “if you structure your investments correctly, you should try to extend, as long as you can, these higher rates.”
