The Green Bay Fire Department has wrapped up its 2024 Holiday Wreath Program.
During the holiday season, the Green Bay Metro Fire Department responded to eleven residential fires.
Of those eleven fires, seven were cooking-related instances.
Much like in Fond du Lac, the Holiday Wreath Program in Green Bay replaces a green bulb with a red one when the fire department responds to a fire, finishing with eleven red bulbs.
The Fire Department has also offered tips to stay fire-safe in the new year.
First, make sure you have working smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
They also recommend planning and practicing a fire plan with children and pets.
Finally, they ask parents to store matches and lighters out of the reach of children.
As most of the holiday fires were cooking-related, they also reinforced that a stove or range is the most common cause of home fires in the country, stressing the importance of remaining in the kitchen when cooking.
However, they finished their statement by saying when in doubt, get out and call 911 in the event of a fire.
