The City of Manitowoc is once again asking for your Christmas tree.
The city’s Forestry Division is bringing back the Tree for a Tree Program, which allows residents to trade their Christmas tree for a deciduous tree seedling known in forestry as a “whip.”
Whips are ready for planting and are generally described as between three to four feet in height, two to four years of age.
The program is designed to help combat the devastating effects of the Emerald Ash Borer, which has caused the destruction of numerous trees around the city.
Throughout the month of January 2025, the City of Manitowoc residents will have the opportunity to bring their live Christmas tree to the Manitowoc County Recycling Center at 3000 Basswood Road.
Live trees should be free of stands, decorations, bags, tinsel, lights, etc.
If the tree is taller than 6’, it should be cut in half. Vouchers will be redeemable from approximately April 25th (Arbor Day) through May 24th.
Choice of species is on a “first come, first serve” basis as quantities will be limited.
