A recent addition at a park in Sheboygan has been honored for its innovation.
Beat! A Musical Garden at Vollrath Park has been recognized by PRB Plus Magazine as the Best Park Improvement Project of 2024 in the U.S.
The unique addition combines permanently installed musical instruments with an accessible pathway winding through the park’s playground equipment.
At each instrument, a page from a children’s book is displayed featuring Coda the Monkey.
Each page follows Coda on a journey of musical discovery with friends, much like kids go on while enjoying the park.
Beat! A Musical Garden was designed by Eileen English, a former student and Sheboygan North High School graduate who said, “Beat! A Musical Garden is more than just a park enhancement; it’s a celebration of creativity, accessibility, and community spirit. We are delighted that this space is bringing joy and inspiration to visitors of all ages.”
The $70,000 addition at Vollrath Park received 47 percent of PRB Plus readers’ votes, earning it the top spot in the nationwide poll held earlier this year.
