Manitowoc County is seeking a grant to help with soil and water conservation.
The National Water Quality Initiative Grant would help the county with five watersheds after some increased nitrate levels have been found in the water.
The nitrate levels can be caused by agricultural runoff and affect groundwater, inland lakes, and Lake Michigan.
The $50,000 grant would be applied for through the Soil and Water Conservation Department and will help improve groundwater quality in the county.
The item was on the county board’s agenda for their December meeting.
