The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources will be celebrating a major anniversary with events across the state next week.
2025 marks the 125th anniversary of the Wisconsin State Park System, and the DNR will be hosting First Day Hikes on January 1st to celebrate.
These First Day Hikes are an initiative from the National Association of State Park Directors encouraging outdoor recreation on New Year’s Day.
A First Day Hike is scheduled for High Cliff State Park in Sherwood.
Other parks in the area that are participating include Newport, Peninsula, and Whitefish Dunes State Parks in Door County.
In addition to hiking, most First Day Hikes will also feature snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, refreshments, and more.
More information on the 125th anniversary of the Wisconsin State Park System and the First Day Hikes can be found online at dnr.wisconsin.gov.
