There will be at least one new Manitowoc Public School Board member after the 2025 Spring Election.
According to his Facebook page, Board Member Tony Vlastelica announced he will not be running for re-election to the board after thoughtful consideration.
He said when he ran, because of the district’s then-COVID-19 policy, a lack of systems was in place to measure progress and student achievement.
He says he is proud of the group that oversaw several accomplishments, including developing a strategic plan, adopting a phonics-based reading program, which led to reading scores going up, and passing an operating referendum.
Vlastelica continues his post, saying that he’s still not happy with “LGBTQ propaganda” in the middle and high schools, which he thinks needs to be removed.
He says, “I believe a safe and inclusive environment is possible without grooming or confusing impressionable children, funded by taxpayers in our public schools. I believe that a large percentage of the taxpayers in our community agree with me on this.”
He finishes by saying that more needs to be done, but Interim Superintendent Lee Thennes can finish what was started.
