Ahead of any major snowfall, the City of Chilton has shared snowmobile route information for the winter.
Snowmobilers are required to stay on designated routes and anyone who does not is considered trespassing and may be prosecuted.
All streets and shoulders of highways must be previously designated to allow for snowmobile use.
Some parks and recreational areas also qualify and will have specific locations where snowmobilers are permitted.
Snowmobiles are authorized in Hobart Park and within the county fairgrounds as long as riders stay in the designated areas or trails.
Compliance with all route or trail signs and limits is also required by snowmobiles.
This includes speed limit signs and hours of operation indicators.
Places where snowmobilers are not permitted include sidewalks, ice sheets on the Manitowoc River, or unauthorized private property.
Lastly, in Chilton, no person is permitted to use a snowmobile on any public land, trail, or route from 2:30 a.m. to 7:00 a.m.
More information on snowmobiling regulations in Chilton can be found online on the City of Chilton’s Facebook page.
