For many, going to court is a scary experience.
Whether it is for a criminal case, for a divorce, or a number of other situations, the prospect of sitting in front of a judge with a lawyer by your side can be very intimidating.
In a recent episode of his Law in the Family Podcast, Lawyer Ralph Sczygelski compared it to going in for surgery.
“Surgery and trial work…is kind of similar because the lawyers are prepared,” he explained. “Going to court is something that I have done virtually every day of my life as a lawyer.”
Sczygelski did say that being a little scared is normal, as it shows you respect the process.
Plus, lawyers and judges use a very specific style of language in the courtroom, which can cause some confusion.
However, there are tactics lawyers use to help ease that stress, including showing the client the courtroom beforehand.
“I’m getting them used to it because I don’t my clients necessarily to be scared,” he noted. “However, the court system is meant to be important.”
