The Green Bay Packers are in Detroit today, gearing up for their second consecutive Thursday night matchup, this time against the Lions.
The Packers enter the contest on a three-game win streak, with the Lions handing them their last loss on November 3rd at Lambeau Field.
Since then, the Green Bay defense has been incredibly good, holding the Bears, 49ers, and Dolphins to a total of 46 points.
Going back to the start of the season, the Packers have only given up more than 30 points twice, and those came at the hands of the powerful Eagles and Vikings squads.
Former Packer O-Lineman Evan Smith explained on the latest episode of the On The Line Podcast that a big reason for their success has been the second level.
“The D-line is playing good, but…backer group is playing at a high level,” he noted. “I don’t think a lot of people saw that as a strength…going into the season.”
Offensively, Josh Jacobs has been a powerful tool to offset the passing game.
He currently sits third in yards behind only Saquon Barkley and Derrick Henry.
Even when his rushing yards aren’t as high as some may like, Jacobs has made himself a big threat in the passing game.
Against the Dolphins, Jacobs only had 43 yards on the ground, but he also had 74 receiving yards, which Smith said makes for a great day.
“He contributed 100+ yards in the game, so he still did exactly what he is being paid to do,” he noted.
The Lions enter the contest on a ten game win streak, including a couple dominant performances in the past few weeks.
