Lakeside Foods has expanded its footprint.
The local food distributor has announced its intent to purchase the business assets of Oregon-based Smith Frozen Foods, with the deal expected to be finalized next week.
As a part of the deal, Manitowoc-based Lakeside Foods will receive the Weston, Oregon, production facility and Garrett Packing/Brittany Farms operations in Milton-Freewater, Oregon.
They will continue to produce frozen vegetables at these facilities.
Lakeside Foods CEO and President Joe Yanda said of the purchase, “Smith Frozen Foods is well-regarded in the industry for its strong legacy of growing and processing vegetables and its unwavering commitment to product quality and customer service. We’re excited to further grow our frozen vegetable business and strengthen service to our nationwide base of retail, food service and industrial customers, especially those with a large footprint on the West Coast.”
Gordon Smith, the Owner and Chairman of the Board at Smith Frozen Foods, spoke highly of Lakeside Foods, saying he is looking forward “to watching them further grow and invest in the business my grandfather founded 105 years ago.”
With the purchase, Lakeside Foods has also decided to cease operations in its Jay Street facility in Manitowoc.
Yanda ensured SeehaferNews.com, “Our managers have worked to support affected employees by finding them opportunities at other Lakeside Foods locations.”
