The gas price trends in Eastern Wisconsin have been relatively consistent over the past three years.
SeehaferNews.com began tracking local gas prices in May of 2021, and since then, a clear pattern has emerged.
The highest prices of the year have been peaking anywhere between June and August, and the prices have dropped starting at the end of October, with the lowest prices coming in December or early January.
For example, in 2022, Manitowoc County started the year with an average price per gallon of $2.99.
The price steadily rose throughout the early part of the year, peaking at $4.86 the third week of June.
The average then began receding, hitting a low of $2.75 just before the calendar turned over to 2023, which is when it started rising again.
While the peak wasn’t nearly as high in 2023, the highest price for the year of $3.60 did come in the third week of August, after which the county average steadily declined to a low of $2.66 per gallon in the second week of January.
Again, like clockwork, the highest average of 2024 came in the first week of August, when it reached $3.48.
There are weeks within those rises and falls where the chart line goes the other way, but typically, those anomalies last for one or two weeks before the trend gets back on track.
This week, Manitowoc County’s average is $2.81 per gallon, up one cent from last week.
However, if the trends continue, local motorists can expect that price to go at least a little bit lower until right after Christmas when it will likely rise again.
